New Principal for OCS

OCS is pleased to announce that Mr. Benjamin Nelson has assumed the role of OCS Principal for the 2009-2010 school year.  Mr. Nelson has taught at OCS for nine years and previously served as Assistant Principal from August of 2003 until December of 2006.  While his teaching load will be reduced, Mr. Nelson will continue to teach junior high and high school classes as the class schedule permits.

Join us in wishing Mr. Nelson well and in praying for him as he assumes these responsibilities!

Important Schedule Change Notice

As the weather forecasts have predicted extremely cold temperatures and even worse wind chills for the next two mornings, the decision has been made that Overland Christian Schools will operate on a late start schedule (classess will begin at 10:30 a.m.) on Thursday, January 15 and Friday, January 16, 2009.  The Homecoming events scheduled for Friday evening will take place as scheduled.

Wednesday Weekly

We have done a bit or reorganizing on our website.  From now on, all Wednesday Weeklys and other notes sent home from the office will be posted on our Notes from the Office page.  You may go to that page by clicking the link at the top of any page of our website or by clicking here.

Fall Musical

On Tuesday, October 14, Overland Christian Schools will present its 2008 Fall Musical.  This event will feature musical performances from both the grade school and high school departments.  Also, a report will be given by the PTF officers and the Country Store coordinator.  Please plan to join us at 7:00 p.m. in the KCCBS chapel.

School Picture Day

Tomorrow (October 7) is school picture day!  Please remember the following guidelines:

  • Students are not required to be in uniform for picture day (especially so they can “dress up”), but they must be within dress code.
  • The photographer recommends wearing bright colors!
  • Those wishing to order pictures must bring and turn in their order forms at the time pictures are taken.
  • Retakes and group pictures will be scheduled at a later date.
  • If you have questions, contact the school office at (913) 722-0272, ext. 8729.

Keeping Informed

A Keeping Informed page has now been added to our website.  This is where we will publish electronic versions of many of the informational items that are sent home with students.  Check it out here.

Walk-A-Thon 2008

Today OCS held its fourth annual Walk-A-Thon fundraiser.  Students from first through twelfth grades ran, walked, and even crawled as they completed twenty laps around the field (for a total of 5 miles each) on a beautiful, sunny morning.  After everyone was finished walking, many of the secondary students enjoyed a somewhat fierce water battle.  Those who participated were easy to spot–they were completely soaked! The event wrapped up with a pizza lunch which was thoroughly enjoyed and desperately needed after everyone had used up so much energy walking.

See You at the Pole 2008

Despite the soggy rain, several students and teachers gathered around our flag poles this morning to pray for one another, the United States of America, and other nations from which a number of our students come.  Below are several pictures from this event.  We appreciate our students’ dedication to God and hope that they will continue to put Christ first place in every aspect of their lives.
