Let me share some good news! 

At Overland Christian Schools, our mission is to provide a strong educational foundation from a biblical perspective and to prepare young people for service as they pursue God’s will for their lives.  It is our desire to educate the whole child: academically, emotionally, physically, and most importantly, spiritually. 

One primary thing that sets us apart from the public school is the worldview that we teach to our students. 

All of us hold a worldview, whether we know it or not.  Del Tackett says “A worldview is the framework from which we view reality and make sense of life and the world… a 2-year-old believes he’s the center of his world, a secular humanist believes that the material world is all that exists, and a Buddhist believes he can be liberated from suffering by self-purification. Someone with a biblical worldview believes his primary reason for existence is to love and serve God.”  At Overland Christian we embrace and teach a biblical worldview. 

A recent study done by the Barna Research Group found that only 4% of Americans hold a “biblical worldview.”   The Barna Group also revealed that a person’s worldview is primarily shaped and firmly in place by the time they reach the age of 13.  A study of this type only solidifies the importance of the work we are doing here at Overland Christian in providing a strong educational foundation from a biblical perspective. 

Unfortunately, many people don’t see the value of Christian education.    For many, the choice of a private Christian education often comes down to finances.  So when there is a free alternative, “free” looks awfully enticing!  But remember, this “free” alternative may cost dearly in the way your child learns to think and act. Placing children in a Christian school does involve significant sacrifice, but statistics show that the results are most often well worth it.

At OCS, the caring staff views their work as a ministry.  Our staff works sacrificially because they believe in the value of Christian education.  They believe in the importance of teaching a biblical worldview to children and young people.  Because of our own deep commitment, it hurts to know that some parents don’t choose Christian education because they don’t feel they can afford it or because they don’t feel it is that important.  We believe it is!

Let me share some better news! 

Could you imagine if Christian schools were able to offer free education?  What if parents had an equal financial choice between sending their children to a public school or a Christian school?  Could you imagine what kind of impact that might have in our communities and our country?

Because we believe so strongly in the importance of Christian education and offering every child an education centered in a biblical worldview, we have begun affiliation with RENEWANATION, a Virginia-based organization.  Their stated mission is:  “to offer a high-quality, tuition-free education to every child whose parents choose this alternative to a secular, naturalistic education.”  Their long-range plan is to build tuition-free Christian school systems across America.

Now that’s a lofty goal…to provide tuition-free education to the masses!  We are excited about the possibilities of this vision right here in Overland Park and the surrounding areas.  While this won’t happen overnight, [NOTE: we are not promising tuition-free education for children in the immediate future], we believe it can happen as people in this community and across the nation envision the reality of this lofty goal.

As we begin another school year, we ask you to partner with us through your prayers, through volunteer service and financial support, and by making the decision to put your child, grandchild, or another child God has brought into your life, in Overland Christian Schools.  As RENEWANATION stresses, every child should have the opportunity to get a Christian worldview.
